I had the privilege of being the photographer for the Relay for Life in Northern VA this May. While I have lost 3 members of my family I have not experienced a death due to cancer. I had not been aware of the Relay for Life until a photographer friend told me about it and asked If I would be willing to document the day. I really felt compelled to give my time and services and I am so glad I did. I met so many wonderful passionate people. It was a fun filled day but not without touching moments and an occasional tear including my own!
They all work so hard all year to raise funds and awareness and this was a celebration of all their hard work not to mention one more day of crazy fun- fund raising.
I think what I loved and what touched me the most was how much they encourage and support those who are suffering with the effects cancer right now. How much they celebrated with those who had beaten cancer and are now cancer free! And how they remembered and honored loved ones who have since passed on.
I was also impressed to see so many people walking! From the very young to the very old, mothers to be and even people on crutches!! Many walked into the night and through the night! It was really amazing and a powerful testimony of their good hearts and dedication.
Many of the vendors gave all their proceeds of the day back to the cancer society. Greg Prescott of Lake ridge Entertainment is in his 8th year of DJ-ing and he rocked us out all day! Reid Bailey of Video Traditions donated his time and is creating a video of the event along with touching interviews. The employees of Nathan’s Dairy Bar from Manassas donated their time and 100% the proceeds from selling ice cream! Mack, the owner of Kona Ice , was there as well giving of their time and earnings and The Hair Cuttery gave haircuts for $10.00 each and donated their proceeds as well! These are just to name a few as there were many contributing people and businesses that helped raise much needed funds.
If you would like more information or would like to make a donation Please visit their website Relay for Life. You can also find them on Facebook .
Many Thanks to everyone for their kindness and special thanks to Chuck and Laura Wilkinson for all your help, encouragement and new friendship!
XOXO Nancy
Hear are just a few from the day.

Maryanne and Troy took one of their engagement photos and had labels made. Each one of their guests took home a bottle of wine. What a great gift! I love this idea!!
This is my first Bellie (this is the way I like to spell it) shoot in VA beach and I was so excited!! Christy and John were so adorable and so fun to be with. They were even up to anything we threw at them including nippy ocean water!! lol.
